School Starts and Seasons are Changing

8/10/2026

School is starting soon, young people are headed back to campus and our schedules might be changing. Before we know it, Fall will be here.

Start with your entryway. This is where fall energy should greet you first, so swap out anything still summer-bright — beach totes, sandals piled by the door — for grounding tones like rust, ochre, and deep green. Then move to your living spaces and layer in texture: a woven throw, a heavier candle scent, something that invites you to slow down. In the kitchen, clear the counters of whatever's been quietly accumulating since June (you know the pile I mean), because fall is a wood-into-metal transition, and metal loves clean, defined surfaces. Bring in a few earth-toned elements — a ceramic bowl, a warm-hued rug — to support that grounded, harvest feeling. And in the bedroom, this is the moment to make sure your linens actually match the season; heavier textiles here aren't just cozy, they help your nervous system register that it's time to rest more deeply.

I worked with a client last fall whose whole downstairs still had a beachy, breezy feel well into October — pale blues, thin cottons, nothing warm to land on. We didn't do a full redesign, just those seasonal swaps: warmer textiles, a few grounding objects, an entryway reset. She told me two weeks later that the house finally "felt like it agreed with the weather." That's really all a seasonal refresh is — helping your home catch up to where you already are.

If you try even one of these this week, I'd love to hear how it feels in your space. And if you want more seasonal feng shui like this delivered straight to your inbox, my newsletter goes out regularly with tips just like these.
